Now a good chunk of games from this gen have this problem. They use a couple of colors and pass it off as next gen graphics as seen in MGS4, Gears, and Killzone. On top of that some games add in a bloom filter to make the rough edges not so apparent. Is it really next gen when a game like Gears or MGS4 uses a handful of primary colors for the majority of the game?

I guess not...

But then again, those sorts of games take place in dank, war torn environments. If it was filled with lush, green, trees, pretty pink flowers, colorful environments, and all that kind of stuff, it just wouldn't suit the game.

So realism = Brown+Bloom and not a full spectrum of colors.
