As such, have been wondering if anyone knew of any freeware (open source is always good) that is on a similar par with features but has a higher quality output. I am quite willing to sacrifice features for quality here as as soon as i play any song worked on on a decent system (or even my new earphones) it just goes to pieces.

But I am not sure, I know little about audio editing. telomere13 Posted at 8:51 am on May 9, 2006 I'd like to vouch for the fact that Audacity does tend to produce some unusual artifacts in one's sound, and it annoys me.  In particular, using the equalizer produces what sounds like distortion even when this shouldn't be the case.
