I own a Blackberry for Verizon. I was told it would cost 20 dollars to switch phones. They never told me about the 30 dollars a month I have to pay for the internet and email. Now this guy is telling me I do.

I figured I could just buy the phone and use the phone for a phone. I like the style... not really need all the internet and email.

Can I use the phone without having to pay the 30 dollars a month?

I would take his word but the other girl didnt say anything about it and then he started to go off about military use and stuff.

Thank you.

Blackberry's on the VZW network require constant data connection, and the data plan is required.

If you are looking for a smart phone to just use as a phone, look into the Motorola Q. I believe that doesnt require the data plan.

Also, people who get smart phones, but dont use any of the features really piss me off. If you dont need the extra stuff, just get a QWERTY phone. Thats all you were really looking for. Dont waste money on something with more features than you will ever use.

Yeah that's also correct, Windows Mobile phones you can get away with no data plan. And I agree with you about buying a phone and not using its features.

I don't think so. On Alltel (recently bought out by Verizon) you can't use a BB without a BB Data plan and if you don't add one the nightly audit and will catch you and automatically add $30 to your bill. I'm pretty sure Verizon does the same.

BlackBerry's use lots of data and connect to special networks
