I'm planning to get rid of all old files, pictures, add-ons etc...

Reformat. or could use Ccleaner ( http://www.ccleaner.com/download ), and jkdefrag best program out there to replace windows defragmenter! it defrags much better than windows! ( http://www.kessels.com/Jkdefrag/ )

delete everything you don't need, empty trash can, disc clean, disc defragment, and then install something that will clean up the registry like registry cleaner like ccleaner or something.

i'd leave the pics, deleting them wont help you
theres just sooo much one can do, youd better google it, there are some good guides people wrote on how to optimize computers
