how do I find executable on my computer. My entire program list accessible from the start menu has disappeared, so now I am trying to recover.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\calc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\notepad.exe
etc.

Or, alternatively,
Start > Run > calc
Start > Run > mspaint
Start > Run > notepad

The system32 directory is typically "hidden" on Windows XP/Vista... don't play around with anything in there :P

Most of your installed programs can be found at C:\Program Files\, which can be accessed via My Computer > C: Drive > Program Files.

If there are any specific executables you are unable to find, you may, once navigated to the C: Drive, press Control + F and search for whatever file(s) you're looking for.
