| Are you able to add new icons / shortcuts to the desktop? You might of deleted them, or someone else might of. |

I think it's "Arrange" on xp (I'm running vista, so I can't look it up). At the bottom of the submenu there should be a "Show Desktop Icons" button... Or go to the C: drive (in my computer), double-click "Documents and Settings", then double-click your username, then finally double-click "Desktop". (I'm pretty sure that's where it is on xp). Go to Tools>Folder Options. Then click "View". Un-tick "Hide protected operating system files" and make sure "Show Hidden Files and Folders" is selected. Then look for some type of translucent settings file (probably a .dll) and rename it to something different. Then reboot your computer. (Sorry I can't explain this in more detail--every computer is different).
did everything you said didnt wotk but thank you so much abyways :] i really appreciate it |

| You can also right-click on the desktop, and go to "view". There should be an option that says "Show Desktop Icons". Try checking/unchecking this option. EDIT: it's not a box... it's just a button |

| Try pressing F5 while you're looking at your desktop. This will usually reload/redraw the desktop. If that doesn't work, post what operating system you are using and I/we can tell you how to reset the desktop cache. (if you don't know what operating system you are using answer these three questions: Is there a button in the lower-left corner of the screen? Does it say "start"? What color is the bar on the bottom of the screen and top of all the windows?). |
