Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM
It tells me to put in the original Windows XP disk and to select the repair option. So I did just that, selected the repair option, and then I was told to pick the windows installation I wanted to log on to, and since there was only one on disk C, I hi the right number. Technically, I then should have been asked for the Admin account password, but I got the blue screened. It says: A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you might need.
If problems continue, disable or remove an newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as cahing or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe More.
Techincal Information:
***STOP: 0x000000c2 (0x00000043, 0xc6A6A000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
So, I tried Safe Mode, but I can't get on without the first error message. I tried Safe Mode with Networking, and the same error message came up. I can't find what to do anywhere. Please help.
xxemily.
Okay, yeah, when your system 32 config is messed, you're pretty much screwed. That happened to me and I had to start all over.
As it looks like you're unable to use the disc, I would really recommend calling the company for further information. That's the best you can do right now.

Whatever it was was a worm of some description because it's burried itself in the registry and the essential files.
Reformat and don't download it again.
