I was wondering if Limewire contains any sort of virus that may harm my computer. Does anyone know about this program?

wtf u on about limewire aint the most watched...

Limewire, is'nt "its own network" it uses the Gnutella 1 Network, unless they have changed to "Gnutella 2".

Such clients like Imesh, Bear Share etc use the same network as limewire, so it aint most watched

These files the goverment put up is true, if you download it fully they log your ip address and can get your home address from your isp... But likely hood is very low!

Personally, if your more of an advanced user id go for

www.shareaza.com

This connects to Gnutella 1 Gnutella 2 and Edonkey, so you get the most file results, more sources, and ontop of that it supports Magnet/ED2K links and even has a bittorrent client inside!!

Shareaza FTW

Generally safe, but make sure file size makes sence for what it is.

Do NOT get limewire, it puts lots of spyware/ adware on your computer, also it is the MOST wastched site for piratting music. The goverment also puts fake music files up for you to download, which means when you do they have cuaght you...

While the program Limewire itself does not contain any virus's.. The files that you download from it could certainly have virus's.

Exactly. There's so much misinformation about viruses out there... Really.

Personally, I strongly prefer torrents for downloading larger files and groups of files, much faster and easier to distribute stuff, as well as being less likely to contain viruses since torrents use hash checks on the file pieces, and more importantly, most torrents come with the CRC checksum for the files.

Limewire its self dosent contain a virus, however, The files you download from it ussualy do! Try and scan any files you download from there before opening them!

Better yet, don't get any type of executable or batch file off there. It's safe to get videos, music and pictures. That's it.

LimeWire itself is not does not contain any spyware, viruses, etc. The downloaded files often do. If you download AVG Anti-virus Free version, (if you don't have it/another anti-virus), than it will protect you from downloading files with viruses. Only download music files and image files. Images can be .jpg, .gif, .bmp, .tiff, .png, etc. If they aren't a known image file type, DON'T DOWNLOAD it.

Music files are usually .mp3 or .m4a if its not a known music file type, DON'T DOWNLOAD IT. Music files should be 800-4000 kb.

If you have AVG or another anti virus, it will warn you if it senses the file contains a virus.

If you know the length of the song, often times it is about 1 minute = 1000 kbs. Thats not always right, depending on several factors, but if its way off than it is wise to choose another file. Also, don't leave Limewire running in the background, it slows things down a lot.
