Does anyone know of any free program that can provide security for my computer?

What part of your computer does the exclamation mark say isn't protected?  E.g. automatic updates, anti-virus, firewall, UAC, etc...

It's not one of those spyware things, but it's beside the clock where it shows you the things that are connected to your computer, whether or not you have internet connection

And get firefox. Internet explorer is unsafe and prone to hacking. Firefox is not.

Not entirely true. FireFox has been caught with it's pants down a few times, but it at least address the issues and solves the problem faster than M$: IE.

It could be one of those pop-ups that like to lie to unsuspecting users. Unless if its windows itself telling you that there's something wrong with the computer, ignore any pop-ups.

Avast, ZoneAlarm, AVG
They will all do the job. Just download only 1.

This should help you out.

AVG but I'm pretty sure that exclamation point will be there anyway. That's just windows being stupid me thinks.

No, it recognizes third party anti-viruses.

Avast is pretty good.
