My video card decided to die today at random.  I wasn't even playing a game.  Now I need to buy a new card to even use my desktop (no integrated graphics).

At least now I have an excuse to upgrade from a 256mb 8600GT to at least an 8800-series.

It is not a monitor problem because I am using it as a secondary display for my netbook.

Always fun to have a reason to upgrade... Is this on a actual tower-style computer or a notebook/laptop?

The problem was/is with my mid-ATX tower.  Was actually looking for an excuse to get at least an 8800, but didn't quite have any compelling reason to spend money on it, until now.

My new monitor came in today (22" LCD widescreen).  So I am using it with my Net-book (acer aspire one).  Amazing, got 1024x600 (9in screen) on my left and 1680x1050 on my right.

nice monitor.

I'm guessing that is sarcasm.  It is a 2001 CRT monitor and is still not having an major problems beyond a slightly faded picture on max brightness and contrast (thru OSD).  The problem is with the video card.

How are you on then..?

I already told you, read again.  I have a netbook, and I have the monitor hooked up to it for more space.

Personally I love XFX, I wouldn't go with anyone else.

I've got a 8800GTS Alpha Dog and for the money, it is immensely good.

XFX is good.  For the year and a half I had the card I loved it.  When I get an 8800-series, XFX is most likely one of the brands I would prefer.
