Don't knock it for its age. Its faster in acceleration then the majority of sub-$20,000 sedans on the market today. Its all about weight and a fantastic transmission ripped straight from the guts of the Ford Taurus SHO. 0-60MPH in 7.8 seconds bone stock.

My Dad's got an all original F-150 with just under 300,000 miles and its cost us literally no extra money from unplanned failings. It needed a new clutch at 220,000 miles, but hey, its a stick. My trucks pushing 120,000 and its got everything original. Except the three clutches, front strut, aaand its got serious lighting issues (blows bulbs monthly). But hey, its a Chevy. Poor quality, indestructible engines that might as well last forever. GT-Four? 170hp turbo charged AWD. Eh, it an All-Trac here. And its 190hp, though they produced a few different models ranging from 180hp-220hp. Also, my 1989 has 85,200 miles. Also, these are extremely reliable cars despite what anyone else has to say on the matter. As nice as the Celica sounds I'm a Ford guy. I figure if all my family's dozens of Fords have served us well, why stray from the tradition of fine quality, reliable, fun-to-drive cars? Not saying they're better then others, but my family and I have been very satisfied with them over the decades. I'm not denying the fact the Tempo GLS isn't incredibly fast. Quick at best. I love these cars for whatever reason, and in Alaska at least, they are more practical then any other car out there. Great in the snow, fantastic fuel economy, reliable, spacious, and they feel like very high quality products. Plus, finding an AWD Celica in Alaska is a heck of a lot harder then finding a GLS. lol- didn't notice you were in Alaska, I can see why that would be tough.
