The notification of a new message is not working. Sometime I get notified on one message but when I go to my inbox I find more than one. Is there a problem with the messages server or something?

It tells me I have several messages when I don't have any (does that mean my inbox is malfunctioning or that I should stop being a loser and get some friends?).
