The belt that a geisha wears is an obi? I'm not sure, but I'm wondering what the purpose behind the large sqaure of fabric on the back is?

It's the part that sits on the lower back slightly over the womans rear that appears to be a square folded fabric section. Is it for looks? Is there any tradition behind it?

its very difficult to undo. it is there so that they can't have sex with someone behind their "mother's" backs, because they will need their dresser to do it up again...
