Indigenous is better I think.
Why? Indigenous is just another synonym for "native" and those of European, African, Asian descent born in the Americas are still NATIVE to the Americas.
Not really. Indigenous mean originally there. It does not have the same meaning as Native which means born there.
in·dig·e·nous -adjective 1. originating in and characteristic of a particular region or country; native (often fol. by to): the plants indigenous to Canada; the indigenous peoples of southern Africa. 2. innate; inherent; natural (usually fol. by to): feelings indigenous to human beings.
it means the original people.
Aboriginal is much better.
its not better. its about the same. the thing that bothers me about it is it is used more for ppl of australia and africa. |

If you'd learn some spanish, then you'd know that in spanish they are simply referred to as indios while in english they are referred to as amerindians or american indians. Keep trying useless idiot.
If you learned some Spanish, you'd know that in many parts of Latin America, "indio" is really offensive- sort of like calling a Native American a "redskin" or something of that nature.
racist haters dont care the racist names they call ppl |

Why, you ask? ab-origine-s, the original inhabitants, as opposed to the native peoples. Anyone born in the Americas is a native American, but only the "amerindians" are aboriginals. Aboriginal is best. |

Native Americans in the United States are the indigenous peoples from the regions of North America now encompassed by the continental United States, including parts of Alaska. They comprise a large number of distinct tribes, states, and ethnic groups, many of which still endure as political communities. There is a wide range of terms used, and some controversy surrounding their use: they are variously known as American Indians, Indians, Amerindians, Amerinds, or Indigenous, Aboriginal, Original Americans, or Red men.
Indigenous is better I think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Native_American_name_controversy |

amerindian is for american indian from south america, but dont tell that to the local racist who dont want to admit that native americans are native to America.
How long do you have to sit somewhere before you're native? I was born in the US. Everyone in my family was born in the US, yet since I'm white I'm somehow not a Native American? Native Americans came from Siberia anyway, didn't they? Canadian English has gotten past all this bullshit anyway. "Aboriginals." They are American aboriginals. Not Amerindians, American Indians, etc. |

| I don't know any Native Americans who use the term 'Amerindians' Most use Native American, American Indian, or just plain Indian. Amerindians sounds fucking retarded, to be honest. I prefer Native American. |

| maybe useless retards should read the dictionary more often
Usage Note: The contractions Amerindian and Amerind occur infrequently in modern American English, especially with reference to the Native American peoples of the United States and Canada. They are somewhat more common in anthropological contexts or when used of the native peoples of the Caribbean and Central and South America.
there isnothing wrong with calling them native americans unless you got some particular bs to pull. Besides we talking in English here not Spanish. Theres nothing in Aurelius post which says we speaking about spanish speaking Native americans |
