So I'm beginning to bring my own food for lunch. I've decided to bring pasta, but I know after a few weeks I'll get sick of it. I thought about bringing rice/couscous, but can anyone else tell me of other foods that can be carried around easily in a small box, won't go off after like an hour, and is healthy?

Oops forgot it had to be healthy. . .hm well ceaser salad .. or no that isnt considered healthy, unless you cool off on the sauce XD But some sort of salad, fruit juice, and a ham and cheese sandwich with lettuce perhaps. :)

Salads.  You can put in some chopped up meat, and get a small container to put dressing in.

Sandwiches.  Avoid tomatoes, because that can make them soggy... but you can make pretty much any sandwich.  Even a bagel with creamcheese could work.

Pasta.  Like you are doing now, but there are so many different kinds of pasta.  So you can do variations on the kind or the sauce.

Parfait.  You can put in the yogurt, granola, fruit, etc.  It can be a pretty decent meal to have.

Soup.  You can easily buy a thermos, shouldn't be too expensive.  It'll keep your soup warm (if you have a microwave where you work even better).  But thermoses are very portable.

Bars.  There are so many different kinds of food bars out there, many that are meant to be meal suppliments.  Cliff bars, odwalla bars, etc... they have a fairly high calorie count (for such a small bar), and they are good to have on the day where you have no time and you need something to run out the door.  Those are just another thought to have for the occasional day.

Pasta isnt a very good choice it's a heavy carbohydrate. Unless you run.

Get some chicken breast and cut it up into small bits; mix it with some salad and Google "healthy salad dressing", see what it comes up with and make it?

Or get some low-fat mayo, mix it with some tuna and make a tuna salad with iceberg lettuce, carrot, onion, etc.

Snacks... uhh, maybe rice cakes? Salt and Vinegar ones from Tesco are awesome! Or get those Snack a Jacks? Uhh, Ryvita with some cheese on it, maybe?

Or sandwiches on brown bread with margarine?

Sandwiches (depending on filling), salads (with chicken or similar perhaps), rice salad, pasta salad. If you change what you take fairly regularly and do variations of each you shouldn't get bored.

[Edit: my favourite snack at the moment is a small pot of sultanas and walnuts - healthy but tasty. Nuts are quite high calorie, so not many but they are still really healthy - definitely better than chocolate or crisps.]

All through elementary it was PB&J for me, and I STILL eat it sometimes. Of course unless you use some healthy form of Peanut butter and jelly I doubt it would be a healthy choice. I guess something like chicken salad is a good idea too.

maykillsthecalendar Posted at 1:55 pm on Jan. 5, 2009
definetely tomato soup ! :]
and a grilled cheese if you want to heat it back up

I think PB&J/PB can stay consistantely good. You should make up a schedule of everything people suggest here and switch it every week. Really, you should be doing that and excersize if you aren't already.

Fruit! =D
