I heard that it had about the same cost as the Beijing Olympics. And this will (probably) give us some breakthrough information, so I think it was worth it. People spend money like that on lots of useless stuff, and this is something that will last.
yeah its a heeps better use then the olympics that lasts a few weeks this will last for ages and benefit science where as the olympics are just to find out what country is oveall best at sports |

waste of money! especially when theres 3rd world countries and famine!
What are you talking about? The LHC cost 5 Billion GBP to make. That's nothing in comparison to the global economy. As Stephen Hawking said the other day: "Both the LHC, and the space programme, are vital if the human race is not to stultify, and eventually die out. Together they cost less than one tenth of a percent of world GDP. If the human race cannot afford that, it doesn't deserve the epithet, human." Without spending money and time making new scientific discoveries, how does anyone expect us to learn the answers to life's questions which have boggled us for so long? I believe in CERN.

| Yes, I support it. I don't understand the people who are like "only if it benefits the world/me with success, else no!" Particle accelerators are already in use and proven, this is just one which is larger, more powerful, with a greater capability for data collection. There's just no possibility that the LHC will be a failure. |

| No not really its a waste of money, theyre is people starving in the world an that 6 billion coulda have helped them out alot, why do we need to know how the universe was formed? isnt it enough its already here? |

hmmm i wonder if there is dark matter? what if they grosely overestimated the weight of the universe and we think normal metter only makes up 5% of it where as the estimation was wrong and it makes up 100% of it lol funny if they discovered that
Well, thats what it's here to find. If there is no such thing as dark matter then we have to re-think, re-test, and re-measure a couple of our laws and theories in the physics field. As well as the other things it is setting out to find.
yeah i cant wait 2 see the results and ill prob b in uni b4 they come out which means ill have smart people arround me to talk about it with insted of putting up with people who dont know wut they are talking bout woot |

Thats no reason not to have space programs or make giant science machines. 3rd world countries are often 3rd world countries faults. Some are just being manipulated and fucked over by trade policies, but alot of the african countries are 3rd world because of their politics. Nobody wants to invest or trade with Zimbabwe because Zimbabwe is not reliable, it has no property rights. Mugabe could wake up one morning and confiscate everything for the state. |
