i dont know very much about this disease but my cousin has it and she's a HS senior like me, to start university in the fall. she's socially retarded and i'm wondering is there any way she can help herself with this because i don't know how she can enjoy uni and subsequently have a good quality of life if she's afraid to go outside unless she absolutely has to or to talk to people... i was thinking of asking her to share a room with me because we are going to the same college and maybe i could help her get over herself but is it even possible? are asperger's sufferers like that for life?

i hate how people say its a life long disorder and then expect such an atrocious saying to bring hope to people, all it does is makes them use the 'disorder' as a crutch for fucking everything

Do any of you have Asperger? You seem to know some about it. Anyway, I think it's more of a mental thing.

No, but my dad does have a mild form of autism, though it's only really noticable if you know him properly.

There are different degrees of Aspergers. It's a life-long disorder and it's primarily mental, although sufferers often have physical illnesses which can mistakenly be attributed to the disorder.

It's very possible your cousin could learn to socially interact at college, even if it is at a basic level - it might be a good idea to share rooms as it would probably give her a better chance of meeting new people.

Of course it is. It's a form of autism.

Asperger's is not a disease, it's a disorder.

No, it shouldn't be physically crippling, although people with Asperger's can suffer with other conditions which can seem/can have phsyical effects.

People with Asperger's can learn, especially in adult life, basic social skills or the like.
