| People saying gangs have nothing to do with race are lol. East-Asians have a higher average income than Whites - yet they have more gang members per capita than Whites. (In the USA) |

| Oh here we go again. Gangs develp from certain cultural backgrounds -generally poverty, hopelessness and a sense of fear. gangs offer some protection (though open up other threats obviously) and income for short term gain. Colour or race have nothing to do with it. Black people in both places you mention have been beaten down for centuries and treated like animals. In S. Africa, it's been less than one generation since black people regained the slightest bit of political or social control in their lives. It takes longer than that to overcome a couple of hundred years of oppression and socio-economic factors that kept black people living in poverty and powerlessness. In the US, it's better and things are more advanced than even present-day S. Africa but the history is depressing. And while it's MUCH better than at any other time in American history, balance is not yet achieved and in many parts of the country the same factors that lead to gangs in the 50's are still there now. |

The shocling gangland culture exposed by Louis Theroux in both Philladelphia and Johanessbourg have one thing in common: The perpertrators are alomost eclusively black. With the growth of black popular culture throughout the world, is this the shape of things to come everywhere?
is there any majority black city where blacks run the govt that is safe and clean and a good place to live? |

| I lived in Philadelphia for most of my days, so I have firsthand experience with this issue. For example, one day I was hanging out at the park, just chilling out, relaxing all cool, and then these thugs showed up and started making trouble in my neighborhood. At that point my mother, fearing for my safety, told me I was moving to stay with my auntie and uncle in Bel Air. So I called a taxi and when it arrived, I noticed the license plate said fresh, and that it had dice in the mirror. I thought to myself, "Well, this is quite a fancy taxi." But I thought "naw forget it. Take me o Bel Air my good man." |
