Free Software

How many of you find it frustrating trying to find free software for your computer?

Perhaps you want something to make music CD’s with, perhaps you even want to try your hand at making the music itself.

Quite often you can spend ages searching without finding the software you really want.

Well we have a brand new sticky to help you!

Myself and other moderators with the help from suggestions put forward some while ago by members have begun to build a big categorized list of free software downloads.

Now this list is all well and good, but we want it to be better. The best way to make it better it to get everyone involved.

We want you to make some suggestions and contributions too. With your help we can turn this into a really useful resource for everyone on Livewire.

- Craig

Nice idea... Should we pm you links or can we put it in here and you mods will edit the sticky??

I would rather they were PM'd. If you go to the topic it has instructions.

Yes the topic now has instructions, previously when I viewed the topic it did not!  Well I shall give one of you a PM then.

Great idea. Thanks.

I'd say look up the NCH software, they're for converting MP3's at any quality and other convertions. They are of the prime. I use them a lot and I haven't had any complaints with it.

Also a nice bunch (especially for graphical artists) are the XCC Utilities (http://xccu.sourceforge.net/) It's mostly used for modifications of games using the .MIX systems since it's probably one of the only programmes that can open it. But you can view any file when your computer has the coding for it and store it into MIX files. These files are coded deeper than WinZip and use up less space. Plus the computer can read straight out of them.

The VXL software offered for download on http://www.tiberiumsun.com/downloads/utils.shtml are swell as well. VXL are voxels. Through the editors you can make 3d objects with the best details inmaginable. Then with the VXL viewer, you can load them up on a background and look at it from any angle with special coloured lighting to make a screenshot or GIF animation. These techniques are again used mainly for moderators from the Command & Conquer world.

This is the work of a beginner. Think of the potential if you're working more on the details. EA is getting high for these kind of programmes.

I know more, maybe I'll add them.

Its a good idea to start a topic like this which would help others saving their search time. It can also be made like request of free software site.
