Ok I recently went to my doctor and told him I had a problem with my eating. This was a major step forward for me and well I don't know I was just hoping he'd be able to help me.

And basically he has just told me to go see someone else. He hasn't even told me to try and gain weight (he told me I was underweight) or anything. So I just feel really let down like he doesn't understand or care about making me better...

Can anyone else tell me their experience when they went to the doctor about an eating disorder?

Well what did you want him to day?
I think you went there with expectations that were far to high for a GP.
GPs are not trained to deal with eating disorders (usually) and your doctor probally knows that telling someone with an eating disorder to gain weight is like talking to a brickwall

Had the doctor have said- "I want you to gain weight and come back to see me in a week"
Would you really have done it?
Would that have fixed the underlying issues that are making you do this to your self in the 1st place?

That is why you should go see a dietitian and a psychologist.

most doctors will tell you to go see a nutritionist. they did not go to school to help with eating habits. the best thing to do is see a nutritionist and they will be able to help you more than your doctor.
