But we're both in the eu
That doesn't matter, England haven't, and probably never will, signed the Schegen treaty which allows passportless border crossing. Countries like France, Germany, etc, all have, which is why you can freely cross from Germany to France, Italy to Austria, etc. England haven't, therefore there is border security and you will need an accepted form of ID, for British citizens that is only the passport unless that is you already have the ID Card Labour are pushing out.
You can travel in Europe without a passport. With a drivers License.
This is true, but you need a passport to firstly get into Europe, then once inside use a drivers license. So the OP DOES need to get a passport.
I went to France with only a drivers License.
From the UK? We don't have open borders, so a passport is definately needed, I don't know what situation you were in to get through. |

I don't know what it's like for British citizens but the last time I went abroad (june this year) I had both my ID and new biometric passport with me, they didn't ask for any and just let us through. It's Schengen, you know? They most likely won't ask for your ID or passport but DO NOT go to a foreign country without ANY identification. Always carry an approved ID with you. |
