This may not be the exact thing I'm going for, but it's a start, and I think that this, or what it could be built into, could help the system. Here it is: Support Leader applications require a nomination. The nomination will not force them to become one, so they still have to work for it themselves. They make the replies, and they write the application. But they'd require a little more to show that their support isn't limited to merely those 10 replies; that they'd continue to use the status for which it was designed. Perhaps this would require another Support Leader to vouch for them, and put their name on the line. Perhaps this is simply someone they'd really helped out. That's up for debate. But I feel this would help to weed out those who are simply doing it for the badge and/or the moderation abilities, and get people who are truly deserving to be promoted. Thoughts? FP

It just means those that are less known (or less popular) will have to ask or seek approval from one of the many Support Leaders or another member to get them to be nominated. It seems to serve absolutely no purpose because whoever could nominate would automatically be inclined to put up for nomination one that they feel is supportive enough (like a taster of their application). Some people's posts or efforts may go unnoticed and it seems a shame that someone that is so dedicated would have to then be put up for nomination. Those that have friends that are SLs could easily nominate the other, and those that don't might just feel turned down by the idea. It could easily discourage new members from becoming SLs, even in the long run. As for the penalty, that's silly. A nominator who nominates someone that they don't know or don't see posting around could easily nominate a spammer (perhaps a dedicated one). Then if they get the SL status and begin to fuck around or put in a shoddy application you'd be willing to punish the person that prompted their application? Or even still you'd just be making SLs wary of nominating people in fear of being punished. The whole idea seems unnecessary and I can't see how it would accomplish anything. FP I still don't see it impacting the level of support here.  I don't think members apply simply for the move topic and remove post ability - I think gradually, over time, it develops into that, but that it's RARELY the motivating factor behind wanting SL status. That's why where the nomination comes from would be tweaked, and this idea built upon to prevent that. This is a starting point. FP Just Waiting Here Posted at 8:45 pm on July 22, 2008 It makes sense, and I can see it working... but I just think back to when I started out, and I wonder if anyone would have known me or whether they would have vouched for me.  I suppose after a point, I may have been able to, but I just wonder how long it may have taken...
