i have a habit of chewing on my thumb or inside of my cheek when i'm really stressed out or mad, and i've been thinking that doing this is a form of self-injury.
i want to know if this is a form of self-injury, or if i just need to talk to somebody

I chew the inside of my mouth a lot. Read it was a form of self-injury, but i don't do it n purpose so i don't think it really counts.

If you are doing it with the intent of hurting yourself, then yes it's a form of self-injury. Find a healthy way of letting go of your emotions. Sports, music, friends, etc. I believe there is a list of things you can do in one of the stickys.

Technically maybe?  I wouldnt get too upset over it unless its causing a somewhat significant amount of damage (something besides redness or swelling) or if it's interfering with your life.  A lot of people have nervous ticks like that

It's just a habit.

It sounds like a nervous habit. You may need to talk to someone about stress.

If you are chewing so hard that you are hurting yourself.
It could be.
