They do it to deal with stress, and it covers up the emotional pain with physical pain. Cutting your ribs is just the same as cutting your wrist, you're just cutting a different area. You should talk to someone if you cut, though. I'm a good listener if you want to talk. Cutting's a bad way to handle your fears/pain. I would know.
