It passed. For all of those who don't live here or aren't aware of Amendment 2- it's a lot like California's Proposition 8. It does not ban gay marriage, but it bans gay civil union. Marriage is based off of this giant lie called "Religion", but it used to be the only way to start a family. After the Separation of Church and State, they created a new way to get "married" called a Civil unity, and it's done by the state, usually in a courthouse. You gain the same tax breaks, everything's the same except it has no ties into religion (typically Christianity).

Since Amendment 2 and Proposition 8 passed, it's no longer legal to be civilly united in Florida and California (and most other states) unless you're part of a heterosexual couple. Pretty sick, huh? This really shows off American citizen's ability to be completely selfish and 100% ignorant. Something exists called the separation of church and state, we let the church do it's thing, while the church lets us do our thing. The church has interfered pretty bad this time, taking control of something that's strictly state based. I just wanted to express my hatred towards those who voted yes for any of these new laws in any state. If you did, you're a bad person, you're no better than the scum on the bottom of my shoe. No questions asked. There's no way to change the way a whole lot of people think of you.

I can't believe it. I can't believe they passed, but at the same time I can. I see enough homophobia and religious zealots and all that, but I really thought it was getting better. What a huge step backwards.

No.

It's not getting better.

And it will never get better until the current majority becomes a minority.  However that might be accomplished...

You're completely right. And any time I've been around any homosexual who was bitching about how wrong things are someone says something about how it's so much more accepted than it used to be and we don't have a right to complain. This is proof that it's not getting better, or not enough at least. You know, I was just watching something about how racial violence is going down and homophobic violence is going up, but when the issue of race is brought up people rarely say that it's getting better and no one has the right to bitch about it. It's complete bullshit.

And now civil unions aren't OK either.

I fucking swear, the only way people like me will ever be treated as something other than second class citizens would be if that fucking majority of "believers" was wiped from the earth, now and forever.
