I really want to be somewhere urban where I DON'T know everyone. It's so much more exciting. But anyways, they're like "We don't want you missing out on feeling like part of a community." Thoughts on NYU's sense of community? Or what I can say to my parents?

I guess it depends on what you want to study (if you want to go into business, Stern would be great for example), the enviornment, etc. Wickette Posted at 2:50 pm on July 29, 2008 My uncle attended NYU and told me that it was like a designer t-shirt, you're paying for the label and novelty rather than the quality. They have a very nice library and bookstore though, that I can admit. With the buildings scattered all over, I could see how the sense of community could be lost. It's in a relatively safe area. As for the school itself, it's overpriced and truly does lack the community. A lot of people have trouble making friends. It's a huge school and that hinders professors from getting personal. The buildings are apparently quite lacking, I've only been in the dorms but they were a bit run down and quite overpriced. Definitely apply, but make sure you visit. A lot of people apply and attend because they are so in love with the city, but quickly become disenchanted.
