I want to join the UK police, so I rung up Essex Police for advice and the woman said that you don't need a degree to join, I would to get a really high ranking position. But she said that I wouldn't really stand much of a chance at getting in at 18 anyway...
...The course is free in Ireland, so there's no fees, I only have to pay for accommodation. Basically the woman said I should do the degree and apply for the police at 21 when I have more life experience.
So I guess thats the thing to do when I actually typed it out...its just, do I want to do the degree??? I mean I think its quite interesting..its just the looking at rocks I don't like the sound of. The archaeology bit would be interesting and stuff...
I think the rest of the people on the course will be really annoying, nerdy types though...I mean who picks archaeology and geology??? I reckon there'll be no girls....
The University looks brilliant though - lots of sports, gym and lots of nightclubs nearby...
Do you think I should take it?
About university, think you will have a degree at the end of it and learnt something. You never know you might enjoy doing it because obviously you can't tell until you have done something as to whether or not it's the thing for you. I personally think you should think about the decision which you are going to make.
If you do the degree you have a qualification to fall back on if things don't seem to work out in other areas of your life, so it's always handy to have. However just because this lady seems to think you won't have a chance at 18 doesn't mean you shouldn't try and if you don't, then you don't have to do the uni option either you could maybe do something else which you want to do.
It's all about evaluating areas of your life to see the best outcome. You might be shocked you might enjoy looking at rocks, who knows until you try!
and you can still follow thru with the police at 21 like they say
It sounds a win win situation really
And of course there will be girls there!
