I think I have a very slim chance of getting in 'cause I had an average SAT score, and I'm only 8th in my class, and I don't really have that many extra curricular activities.

My best friend told me that of course I'm gonna get in 'cause:

a) I'm black
b) I'm female
c) I'm middle class
d) I will be a first generation college graduate.

I dunno, I really really wanna get in though...

Being black and a first generation college grad do help you, but being a female works against you because more females apply and do well in college, and therefore easily reach the college's female quota, than males.
being black will help her significantly more than being female will hurt her.

Also, being 8th in your class is amazing if you have more than 100 people in your class, and what you consider average SAT score may not be average. I have friends who consider 1800/2400 to be average but the national average is actually around 1500. It all depends on your perspective.

I recently visited Chapel Hill and I'm thinking about trying to transfer there. Campus and the surrounding town are pretty beautiful - very historic. Good luck!
