I completely agree with you. A school's academic reputation definitely matters--especially if applying to Graduate schools. Same thing for Emory..it is ranked higher than Auburn, UGA, etc..although it may not be that well known. Its on the top 20 hardest to get into list, or at least it was last year. Small liberal arts college with an awesome reputation. Oh yeah, and my uncle is a Physics professor there. And about it-- To get in, you need pretty high test scores (at least upper 600s for Math and Verbal), a high GPA (over 3.75), a challenging high school course load.
