I notice than often times, guys will speak to each other (man to man) very differently than to anyone else.  It's like a manly sign or something.

They tend to be like "Yo man" or "Dude".....whether they know the person well or not.  Is this an unwritten rule or respect or something?

Is it still affectionate or friendly to call each other man or dude?  Is there a way that guys ask each other if they're alright?  and why do some act differently toward girls (like asking in a soft spoken voice "Are you okay hun?")

It's not just guys, girls call each other dude, as well as guys. It's just the current expression among a certain segment of our society. Like all such things, these expressions come and go. A few years ago, everyone was homey, before that at some point cat, it's just the current vernacular.

It's just slang... I guess you just pick it up depending on the environment you live and are involved it. I always say it, man and dude most frequently and a few other inside joke type things to close friends.

I say "what up girl" to close girl friends too lol.

yeah this is something that has been on my mind, my boyfriend always calls his 2 male friends "dude" on the phone, in text messages and in real life. Whyyyyy?

lol I've never said "man" or "dude" to anyone before. I've heard it countless times though during High School of others, but I've never said it myself.
