My boyfriend is 19 years old and is currently a CS major. He graduated from high school when he was 17 and got an Associate's Degree at the same time. He's basically been in school nonstop since he was maybe 15 or so, all year, summers included.

He got into a good school here on the east coast and really liked it but due to extenuating circumstances had to return home. He'd like to come back now but his Mom is basically a bitch and his Dad is her bitch. She has come up with 1000000 reasons why she doesn't want him coming here even going so far as to say that Computer Science is worthless. -_-

He's tired of being there and getting screamed at constantly and pushed around. His parents baby his sister and his brother, even going so far as to give them hundreds of dollars at a time for stupid shit, while refusing to even give him money for lunch. It doesn't make sense...those two don't even do anything and yet they refuse to help him, of all their kids.

He's able to come back here if he can find a way to pay for it. They refuse to co-sign any of his loans and so now I'm trying to help him figure out what to do, if there are any options at all.

Any advice? :(

i got a loan at 18 without a co-signer...as long as u have proof that it is for school you can get it but they wont give it directly to you....it goes straight to the school....so he can try that

You can always ask a really, really good friend to help you out with the co-signing and what not.

I'm not sure about co-signing, but I didn't need to cosign on my loans, and I'm the same age as your boyfriend.  It would definitely depend on the loans, but I have federal unsubsidized loans, and it was all done under my name.  I think if he's over 18, he should be able to do it.

His best option is to call his school.  Talk to the finance department, and see his options (scholarships, loans, financial aid, etc).  They'll best be able to tell him what's available for him and how he should go about doing it.

I don't know, my parents are separated and I live with my Mom, she co-signed my loans but I don't know if my Dad would stick his neck out for my boyfriend like that. I might mention it to him and see what he says.

He was at school and then he went home (wasn't his choice). Now he wants to come back, this school is better and he'd get out faster and his parents and family are totally nuts and nasty to him so he wants out. He's already been let back in to the school but his parents want him home because he's their housekeeper and chauffeur. -_-

He should try to apply for loans, he might be able to get one, especially in this economy. Would YOUR parents co-sign for him? They are only liable if he never pays it off, but I doubt he would do that.

But I'm confused... he's trying to come back home from school, but doesn't have money? Or does he need the money to pay for school?

I don't know, can you do that without needing a parent to co-sign?

EDIT: I don't know, I just know that my parents are basically on everything somehow. If you know what to do to get stuff without needing parents, I'd like to know what you did or where you went.

I was able to get grants and loans without a co-signer because I'm 18...and after I graduate I will have to pay every penny back myself.

how come he can't?
