Pell Grants and FSEOG Grants are free money. They are based on your need, not on your grades.

Pell can go as high as about $3,500 per year.
FSEOG can go from $200 to $2,000 per year.

Perkins Loans go to about $4,000 per year (depending on the college). These can be forgiven if you become a teacher in some areas.

Stafford Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans range from $5,500 as a freshman to $10,500 as a Jr/Sr.. Once again, $5,000 of this can be forgiven if you become a teacher in some areas.

You can volunteer for Peace Corps or Americorps and receive a little over $4,000 per year (max of 2 years) to pay for college, but it isn't cash to you.

Hope that helps

Very helpful site. I have taken out a few loans, which sucks, but it is worth it for a quality education.

Loans you have to pay back; scholarships and grants you don't.

Have you looking at www.finaid.org  ? It tells you about the different types of financial aid.
