Well, that was all fine and dandy with me!  When I got to 4th period, I asked my friends if any of them were offered the same thing, and they informed me that it was only open to minorities. That pissed me off.  My guidance counselor told me that I was considered because of my classes and my GPA, not because I'm black, and my classes, and my GPA.  I really don't want to do it, but they're all like, "Money for college is money for college.  Don't let your pride get in the way of that. You got chosen because you're smart too." I want to be chosen just because of my ability, and I don't want my race to have anything to do with it.

I know you're not really going for the minority title and all, but sometimes it's worth milking the government for it's worth. College can be an extremely expensive thing and if you can get away with a few more ways to obtain scholarships and grants, why not? I mean, it's different when you're getting a job and you're told the only reason why you were given the job was because it filled the minority quota for the company. I would just pick my battles and go with the flow. But if you think you can afford the college tuition without getting these sort of scholarships and such... then just ignore me. I think it's called Operation Uplift or whatever.  My counselor didn't give me any literature on it or anything, she just took down my phone number and e-mail address. You have an amazing opportunity and you should be proud of yourself and yes, you deserve it because regardless of what you want to believe race does get in the way of some things and if it just happens to work in your favor why would you turn it down?
