So I'm wondering if when i apply for fafsa and get accepted, what  they actually do? Do they just pay for my school or do they give me actual money too? I heard from 3 different people that they really give u money but I'm not really sure...

Your FAFSA will be forwarded to the colleges you plan to attend. Each will create a financial aid package for you based on the EFC (what your family or you should be kicking in) and can include any of the following:
Grants, work study, stipends, scholarships and loans

You will then have the option of accepting all, any or none of the award package. The money will not go to you directly. Once you have determined which awards, grants and loans you will accept, the money will be placed in your student account to cover tuition and fees, anything left after the drop date will then be disbursed to you. Get direct deposit -it's much faster than waiting for the check!

If you are offered more loans than than free money, start applying for more scholarships. Use a free service like www.scholarshipexperts.com or fastweb.com. Good Luck!
