My family is upper middle class. We're not poor enough for me to get a lot of aid, but we're not rich enough to pay for an Ivy League education. I wonder if a lot of people are in my predicament. It sucks.

cant you get a loan? i think even in some cases that the school can help you out?

If you can avoid loans- do it. Taking out too much in loans will only mean you're putting off the payments after you graduate. And they usually only give you a year to start.

i'm at duke and we're upper middle class too. its not that hard to pay for, you can still get aid even if your parents make a decent amount of money. i think we only pay like 10K a year or something (compared to the 50K tuition total), and my parents make over 100K a year.

did you get your aid statement back yet? that should give you a good idea.

It's too bad I wasn't born into some political dynasty. Then I could get into Yale. =[

I'm in the same boat as well. Maybe they should have thought about the MIDDLE CLASS!

My ex was/is. His Dad makes enough money to appear as though they can afford to pay for his education when they actually can't so he doesn't really get any help.

My good friend just got into NYU today but can't go because she's in your situation, so she's kind of bummed too. Congrats, those are two really impressive schools and I would kill to have whatever credentials you have! I would talk to your school college advisor about what options you have, because I think I've heard of people asking for a financial package after being accepted, even if they aren't as needy as most applicants. I don't know. I think just talking about what you can do with your advisor will help clear up things. Congrats again, and I hope you wind up at a school that's as good as you deserve.

Im not one of those super smart kids that got into the Ivy league. Im not gonna be given a lot of aid because im just like an average  kid there i suppose.

That is the case with me, as well.

My family earns too much money to qualify us for pretty much any financial aid... but we have four children in our family, and three of us so far have gotten into really expensive schools. Its going to be hard to pay for us all, we're depending on what little merit based scholarship we have.

I hate it at my school how I've gotten two thousand dollars to help pay for my education (45k tuition), while my friend is getting a full ride because he couldn't afford it at all.
