*Sigh* it really bothers me that you have to be 24 to be considered independent from your parents. Until then, my parents will be considered in terms of my FAFSA forms and the like... My only other option is getting married or joining the military or something, which aren't in my plans...

I mean... I don't know why they chose 24 as a standard for every student. I moved out last year when I was 17 and a half, and I pay my own bills and the like (I live with my older sister too) and I have to give my dad money each month. And yet I have to wait 7 years before I'm considered as an independent? *sigh*.

Thankfully for me, my dad will help me pay for college, but really, places make it so hard to appeal the dependency status that I wonder how hard it must be for those that WON'T get any aid from their parents.

i took a break too, helped me grow up and get back to school more focused

Yeah, that was part of my reasons too.  I mean, financially, we probably could have taken out loans and stuff... but I didn't have much motivation in highschool... still did well, but nt as well as I could have...  So I was hoping that a year off would bring the motivation back.  And now i can't wait! :)

you can also get a different aid for waving unit fees, which basically makes your classes free, but u still buy your books

Hmm, that's somethign I should look into, but probably not somethign I would qualify for :(.  Lol.

For now, I guess i just have to see how the form goes... and see what aid they'll give us and the like :(.

FASFA take for fcking ever to get back to you

I've heard, lol.  My dad took forever to do his part on it, so I only sent it in today -__-'.  I've had bad experiences with the fafsa... definitely not my favorite thing, lmao.

im 23 and get FASFA, i think they can make exceptions with appriate signatures from parents. make an appointment to talk to somebody in the fin aid office at your college

Yeah, I've talked to them already, but I need two years or something like that.  So I'll try and make an appeal next year or something... or see how things go for now.  :).
