I have been researching about all I need to get and care for a guinea pig and I know I can take care of one just fine. The thing is our dorm only allows fish, but tons of people I know have gotten away with small animals like this, one pod even had a kitten. My question is are guinea pigs loud?

I have been finding varying things that have said they are and then there are ones that have said they aren't.

Also I am only considering getting one, I know everyone says to get two because it isn't that much more to provide for two, but I don't have room for two, just one.

For those of you who are reading this that are guinea pig owners can you give me any tips?

They make squeaky noises that could possibly be heard by people outside your door.

The only problem with Guinea Pigs is sometimes when they want food (fresh veggies mainly) they will bite on the bars of the cage and make a whole bunch of noise.  You can teach your guinea that this is bad behavior.  Any more questions, just ask!  I've had loads of experience with piggies.

It depends. If they are hungry and you make a noise that sounds like a plastic bag or carrots breaking, they will most likely squeak. Some are louder then others though. And also when they are uncomfortable they will make noises that sound just like a bird. And if you only have one it will probably squeak more often because it will get more attached to you, and hear you, then if it had another one to keep it company.

Guinea pigs are social animals, so getting two would be better (same goes for rabbits, and almost all rodents). However, if you pay alot of attention to it, it will have that social bonding that it needs.

And you would have to check with your school about whether they are allowed. Unless of course you dont really care. I mean, if you dont think anyone would rat you out, then just go ahead and get one.
