I'm moving into a dorm in January and I was thinking of things that I will want to brighten up the place or things I need in general.  I want a new comforter, pillows, pillow cases, a lamp, and a small rug.  It already comes with a dresser and desk and bed.  Any other ideas?

Make sure you get a comforter you're happy with.  It'll basically be the centerpiece of your side of the room.

Also:
*Fridge.  I suggest getting the biggest they allow, the ones with a separate freezer, if you are going to be eating from your dorm a lot.
*Microwave, if your dorm allows
*TV.  If you watch television at home, you're gonna miss it.  Bring one with you if you can
*Computer.  You need your computer, if you have one
*MP3 Player.  Really handy for drowning out noises of other people and whilst walking.
*Posters.  Probably going to be your only decoration.  Choose well and make sure to get something that will actually make them stick on the wall.  Other wall decorations are okay too, as long as you can get them to stay
