So why do people put tape on their windows when a hurricane is coming?? I never understood that. Because it's not like they tape up the whole window to keep the glass together. They just put a giant x across it

It keeps the glass from shattering.  When the glass breaks, the tape keeps it all together so it doesn't turn into a projectile

So the glass don't shatter

They think the hurricane will know not to go through that way.

Probably because the tape keeps the glass together better.

so the glass doesnt explode

 This.

And if it does shatter for some reason it's more likely to stay in place and not fall in and leave you with a massive gaping hole.

i told you you was clever

cos if the glass shatters, its most likely to smash in large triangular pieces, and if the tape is in an 'X', it should get every piece (pretty much)..
That was a complete guess btw.
WickedWiccan Posted at 1:09 pm on July 4, 2009
So that shreds of glass won't go flying everywhere if the windows break.
