It was about eleven in the morning,
and I was headed off to lunch.
Eric and Dylan had duffel bags.
Something was wrong, I had a hunch.
They were looking around,
and I was confused.
At 11:17,
the bombs diffused.
I figured there was trouble,
so I decided to leave.
I barely escaped,
It was luck, I believe.
The next thing I knew,
there were gunshots and screams.
Such acts of violence
only happen in bad dreams.
My friend, Rachel, was shot
outside of the school.
Her life was draining,
her blood was a pool.
There is when I left.
Her death was a sign.
I never thought it could happen
at my dear Columbine.

that poem's writing seems like an offense to the traumatic experience of those who actually went through the columbine shooting. My main suggestion would be to not write it as though you had been there, it trivializes and silences those who were. at least write about your reaction to it.

you've heard the 'Rachel's Challenge' speech, recently haven't you?

We had the speech at my school on tuesday, dude, it was her fricken uncle. i didn't expect it to be somebody so close to her.

ooh.
no.
haha.

I had to do a "public monologue" poem for my creative writing class. the only major news-related anything i'm interested in is school shootings. they happen alot around here. it's pretty scary, so i just decided to write a poem about it.

and i wikipedia'd columbine, and rachel's name was the first on the list.
so i just used her.

well she was the first person to be shot, and all the writing and stuff she did were awesome too.

Don't.

Well,
I definitely had to.
It's not like I really want to write about a school shooting.
It's not like I don't have to worry about them enough.
