I made an I Spy poster, but I'm hopeless at rhyming, so I'm putting it to you to make the clues for me. Here's the image:

Full view

Here is what I have so far as an example:
A metal detector, a gold 2,
eight white dots, and a needle to sew.

Prize is more than 2601 points.

Ok folks, results are in!

I've decided to split the points in 3 places because there were lots of great entries and giving all the points to one person wouldn't be right.
First Place, earning 1414 points: Khadgar - Of the clues I did use, a lot of them came from or were inspired by your entry.
Second Place, earning 800 points: xoxo1234 - Again, a few of my clues came from your entry.
Third  Place, earning 500 points: NoNoNora383 - Although I didn't use any of your entry in the clues I ended up using, your entries were still impressive.

I spy, with my little eye:
an 'eek' coming from a fish,
a cup of tea to set on your dish,
A clip with three squares,
and a magic man of affairs.
A golden trinket of a number twenty-one,
and a bolded s-u-n.
A whale of a man,
and, last but not least, a reflector to tan.

1:next to the clothespin
2:the cup
3:to the left of 'Mudbricks Australia'
4:letters in ..tion... .outh ..eek at ..s.p (next to clothespin)
5:the paperclip on the 3 soduku squares
6:wizard
7:army guy on whale
8:mirror

Here's another I made:

I spy a puzzle of wits
Plastic to kill
And a needle that knits
I spy a dot and five more
And a slip of paper to help tie the score
I spy a child's doll's toy
A plastic blue creature the shape of a boy
I spy the fortune of your birth
And the threader of a needle
With words in its mirth.

I spy a gift in a box
And one or two colorful round marble rocks
I spy a timepiece where seconds tick past
A birthday reminder,
A gun that can blast
I spy a teacup the color of the sky
And some tightly woven thread—
There are things I spy.

I spy a spring
Wound up in a coil
A soldier perched in foreign soil
A vacuum creator
A music machine
A letter on which a mirror does lean

I spy a clip with no paper in its grasp
A clothespin alone with nothing to clasp
Five painted white dots
On a tiny green square
Some dull silver coins
One needle from a pair

I spy a muddle of things, it seems
Things that you'd only pair up in your dreams
Like a colorful, rotating merry-go-round
Where objects are scattered onto the ground

2601 up for grabs and only 17 days to go!

I spy with my little eye the time showing hour five
a golden swan, metallic "see"?
war pawns numbered four by three
he who said, "you shall not pass!"
reflection of a crowned class
a child's wish, a big blue fish
what laps up milk within a dish
poker faces hide and seek what lies beneath a bauble
and strings which play and sing will only do so when they wobble.

Brilliant entries so far - very inspiring. I have combined clues from everyone's entries to make a single rhyme so far, but I can always add more clues it if anyone comes up with better ones.

Edit: I found a really good tool for rhyming. It's like a thesaurus, but for rhyming words.

I spy a frog, a candle and a box,
some wrist-worn beads and a wrist-worn clock.
I spy a wizard and a scorpion fierce,
a pin to hold and a pin to pierce.
[X] in change, two dice tossed
six green men and two marbles lost
A coil of string, a spool of thread,
an open gift and an A that's red.

Replace the [X] with the total amount of the coins, maybe tweak the line a bit to make it flow. Also, change any of the numbers of objects if I got it wrong.

I spy with my little eye 7 soldiers on the run
Perhaps, later they'll have some fun
With two business men, tie on neck and hand on hip
They work all day and all night to the music of an electric guitar
Hanging clothes and 2 pieces of jewelery
With a needle they will sew
six buttons in a row
and if they do not finish then
they will pin the rest
There are still more clues you need to pass this test
Find the coins and buy some tea
and maybe a present for you or me
tame a green creature with a clip and now our game is almost done
so find a card, and you have won!

The rhyming is off, but I think the clues are good. I can edit it to make it better

I spy a slinky, a candle, a whale
Seven green soldiers who escaped from their jail,
A clothespin to hang up your newly cleaned socks,
A candle, a wizard, and quite a fancy watch.
6 assorted buttons and two threads to sew them tight,
Two musical instruments that the band plays at night.
I spy one extra card that will win you the game,
One happy man and Phil is his name.
Last but not least I spy a letter of the alphabet,
Find everything above and you'll be all set. :)

Lol. I got bored. :P

Thanks for the entry, but a lot of those clues are really obvious. Like the A is probably the first thing someone will notice because it's so big and really stands out against the background. I think I will take a few good clues from all of the entries and distribute the points between those members, unless someone can come up with something I'm 100% satisfied with.

I just thought of including 'a guy called Phil' as a clue. I mean, when you read that, you think "how the hell am I supposed to know if any of these various guys in the photo are named Phil?"

But you have to think outside the box. There is a photo of a guy on the newspaper near the slinky with a partially obscured caption that reads 'Phil'.

Keep entering people!

K, found stuff, I'll give it a try....

I spy a paper clip, the letter A,
and and 12 brave soldiers to save the day!

A slinky, a mirror, and 5 marbles;
6(?) buttons, one bracelet, and one tick-tocking watch, too!

jessica20110 Posted at 6:51 pm on May 17, 2008
I spy...ah, one of my favorite book series EVER. No lie. I'll take a look at my I spy book....and I'll get some ideas on how they put stuff together

Edit: awww....can't find my I spy book How disappointing. I'll search some more...

Brookie Chookie23 Posted at 1:55 pm on May 17, 2008
I Spy is a series of children's picture books with photos (usually following a theme) depicting various objects scattered around the place and rhyming clues describing what objects to find. If you visit their website, they have interactive examples of what you'd expect to find in their books.

I don't think I understand...maybe we have a culture gap? Could you explain a fraction more?
