I care about this person a lot and they have had a drug and alcohol addiction for years and have been in and out of rehab. I know that no one expects them to recover and everyone thinks that they are a troublemaker. I'm sure this person thinks the same thing because that is how they've been treated their whole life. I know that the only person who can change them is themself, but what can I do to make them feel better about themself and to help them?

tell them you love them (which i'm assuming you do since you posted this) and tell them you would do anything to help them, and act dissapointed everytime you hear they did something

tell them that you believe they can get over this, support them and encourage them. thats all you can do.

tell them how you feel about it. I don't care how addicted anyone is, it's possible to recover.
