In your own opinions and from your experience in seeing friends/peers, do you believe that upon coming to College that most people drink ONLY for a short time then stop?

Is it common for freshmen (Esp. freshmen Girls) to drink heavily and go out every weekend for only that year?  Then they stop forever...?  Or is it more like a choice..you do it all the time or never again.

Because I noticed my friends drank a lot during freshman year but never during sophomore (well, her boyfriend also had a lot against alcohol).  Do you thik they will ever want to drink again when they get olddr or when they are 21?

I think people tend to drink when they're freshmen, because they want to fit in or because they want to experiement. They join sororities or fraternities so that they can go to parties. Then they make the friends they need to make, have a big bash for their 21st, then don't really drink anymore.

A lot of freshman want to follow the "American Pie" or "Van Wilder" movie status.

WRONG.

I partied a bit freshman year... it got old cause it's the same sh*t

Beer, slutty girls (majority)... loud music

that was it.

In my college, in freshman year, big binge-drinking parties were common, but as the years progressed, these large parties turned into smaller get-togethers where alcohol is comsumed in a responsible manner. Then, once people turn 21, they go out to the bars on Friday night. I never really binge-drank but occasionally get together with a small group and have some drinks. When I turn 21 in a few months, I'll likely go to the bar occasionally but alcohol is so damn expensive there it would prohibit me from going often.

What happens when your boss asks you "what do you want to drink" and you say "milk."  Your boss is going to think "wow I hired a pussy" and that is the harsh reality

And if the boss is offering alcohol to someone underaged...we have more of a problem than worrying about the drinks at hand, don't we.

I'm sorry, but I don't drink. Ever. And if my boss is going to think me a pussy, b/c I don't drink, then maybe I don't want to work with said boss. A boss should worry about the productivity of their worker, not what they drink and don't drink.

It's a harsh reality, hungryboi, indeed. But your reality does not equate all.

wow are you like
prohibition spokesperson incarnate?

Far from it.

in some cultures it would be deemed disrespectful to refuse a drink from a boss or superior.  its just how some office environments work.

Oh, no, honey. I don't know where the fuck you're living, but office environments don't force one to drink. You can ALWAYS say 'no thank you'. And, our culture is NOT that culture. Try again.

im simply addressing the fact that you'll most likely be dealing with people who drink / environments involving alcohol for the rest of your life.

So what if you have to deal with it? You can always say 'no', no matter the situation/circumstances. You do NOT HAVE TO DRINK IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO. Boss pressure is peer pressure. I don't care if your boss is the leader of Sam Adams, and he's working with you, as a part time Boss. You do NOT HAVE TO DRINK, NO MATTER WHAT HE SAYS. If he looks at you any less b/c you drink water, over beer, you have every right to leave. Probably every right to sue for...I dunno, stupidity.

and your goody-two shoes patronizing attitude is something that should be addressed...BY GETTING A LITTLE TIPSY.

I'm no goody two shoes. And, no, I would rather stay sober, the rest of my life, thanks much.

But thanks for the assholey attitude. :_

chill out.

I can do well without alcohol. Too many dangerous side effects. The cons outlast the pros.

its a way of socializing and it has been for as long as modern human history.

Talking is a way of socializing.

often times meetings and business deals go on at bars.

Your point? Just because you're in a bar, doesn't mean you have to drink.

Ohhhh Mr. UPenn got told!!1

i didnt mean drink excessively

what i guess i meant was
get used to the prospect of drinking and understand your limits.

get used to drinking
its a part of american life

*sighs* People like you disgust me.

You don't have to drink if you dont' want to. College is no different than high school, or even middle school. Peer pressure is going to exist, always. But if you can avoid it once, you can easily avoid it later.

Your drinking habits will align completely with who you hang out with. That's what happened with me!

I'm not in college yet, but I can only assume most do it for the attention, until they realize it isnt the right way...
But some just chose it as a lifestyle..

youve obviously never drank either.
