I got a reply from my former boss, and he said he would need someone in 4-6 weeks.  I'm going to talk to my profs today, but I don't think they will raise much issue with me finishing my coursework via distance learning.  So, that means the only real issues are friends and family. So...should I stay or should I go?

I know it will be hard for you with family and friends, but I am sure that after a few weeks there you will be able to make some new friends, the old ones and your family you can visit them from time to time and stay in contact with them via phone or internet. It seems like a once in a 2 year opportunity and possibly once in a lifetime, and I don't think many people would want you to pass on it, on their account.
