I having thoughts about joining the British Army, Ive been looking through my tin of family stuff. All the medals we have, from the battle of waterloo too the first gulf war, some french some british. 4 for bavery in the field, 2 for good conduct.

And I just read today: "Remembering Today: Lt Mervyn Henry Wollaston TRENDELL, HMS Galatea, Royal Air Force, who died aged 18 on 19.05.18". Whoever he was, he was 18, a lieutenant in change of a few hundred men at 18. At 18!

Ive never wanted to die in my bed, i just dont like the idea of waking up coughing and spluttering and dying like that. I want to die a violent death if I have to, I know it seems strange, but I'm scared of the unknown, and Id be alone, in bed....atleast if I got shot in the army, people would be pulling me a nd Id know whats happening and guys would be screaming at me...and then it would just fade away.... and itd be tragic, awful, another to be added to Britains war dead and to be remembered on remembrance day.

ask people what they think of it and their experience. but just dont base your decision on what people say. you are different than them and the people posting here. you might like and you might not but in order to find out...you have to try it out.

The army is a shitty place to earn ones living from. When you are in the army you put your life at risk all the time. If you're deployed in the army you'll see the most horrible things a human being can ever do to people, and animals.

It's not worth it there's other ways in surviving in this world which will take you a lot further.

i have british passport and am mainly british. my grandad is half irish, and i have my irish surname from him.

oh definetly ordinary ranks.

You thought about your regiment? Int corps enlisted men are paid better at entry than any other unit.

Or if you prefer Infantry, the paras are a must.

For more hands on, technical stuff, look at the REME's.

For an easy life, go for the Red Caps- the RMP

Ummm, You do know that because you're Irish, you'd get a VERY hard time in that army right? Thats what stopped me joining...
Rubbish! We have nationals from all over the world!

Our Armed Forces are so under appreciated. It's a good career, but careers officers are going to bullshit a lot about future prospects with them, even the army ones.

Have you thought about whether you'd like to enter as an officer, or as soldier?
