My parents will be getting me one for a grad present, and right now I'm leaning towards a Macbook or Macbook Pro unless anyone can convince me otherwise.

get a macbook pro, i'm going to be a freshman and I have one. They are by far the most reliable laptops and you don't have to deal with all of the viruses and blue screens of death, etc.

And don't pay attention to all the people who say "oh Macs Suck" because they are the ones who havent used one... or at least one of the new intel macs. I had to deal with people who said that daily when I worked for Best Buy selling computers and I would eventually convince them that Macs are easily better than all other laptops.

People are scared of change.

Avoid Macs, at all costs.

Stick with HPs or Acer. And...avoid Dell, too.

MacBooks are pretty awesome. I'm typing on it right now. You might want to check if your college has specific requirements before getting a laptop, though. There are some schools that are going to give you a laptop, too. Just saying.

Something simple from Dell is sufficient for college.  If you want to do gaming, PC is the way to go rather than laptop, because PC is incredibly easy to upgrade graphics, memory, etc. etc. compared to a laptop.

Yah but how simple will it be to carry a PC around...

Its easier to carry around a PC compared to upgrading a graphics card, increasing drive space, or increasing overall RAM capacity on a laptop.  It doesn't hurt to buy a cheap laptop for classwork while having a feasible PC for your entertainment needs along with using an HDTV 720 or 1080p television for your computer monitor, as well.

Either one is really great. I like Macbook Pro better, even though I'm getting a Macbook soon.

I have to get a Mac.  But, I heard Dell is pretty good, especially if you're looking for a gaming laptop.
