My mom read this, and immediately had a negative reaction towards it. Why? What are they all about? What bad things happen that would give her this mindset?

There's a lot more drinkig and partying in the frats than sororities usually (in general... esp because a lot of frats can have alcohol in the house while in sororities it's forbidden soo no parties there). And sometimes people associate sorority girls with being slutty and frat guys with being players. Buuut taht's not necessarily true. Most houses really encourage you to do well in school and schedule study hours and stuff which can realy help people focus and study and do well in school. Plus there's always like a lot of philanthropy and getting involved in the community... plus meeting good friends and stuff! It really depends on the particular school and the aprticular house, some are more "wild", and some are more "studious"... If you're going to rush, I'd research into it and figure out which you think would best suit you. Good luck!
