I'm in my second term of my first year at University, starting to properly settle down to living away from home. However, lately I just get periods of mild depression. I can't talk to my girlfriend, as she is at Cambridge University, and if I'm lucky I get a 1 minute conversation each day...

The problem is, I've never really had proper friends - I've had groups of people I'm friends with, but no one I can really talk to if I'm feeling down. And now I'm in a new group of friends at Uni, I'm finding the exact same thing - none of my friends are really approchable if I'm not feeling happy...

So I have to spend evenings sat on my own, without really having anyone to talk to, and hence the periods of mild depression. Help?

Thanks

Yeah, I know it can be tough when you're in a new group of people, but just keep trying to expand your social circle and you'll find the right people. There are many out there who are going through the same feelings of loneliness as you and would love to talk to you about them. Strike up conversations with people in your class or with those in a store you like. You'll never know who you could meet unless you make the effort to start a talk!
