What do you do? Do you go to group or individual therapy? Do you just ignore it?

How does it affect college and your relationships?

I am a 23 y/o cutter. I go to individual therapy and my therapist knows I'm a cutter, but we don't talk about it much. I am going to bring it up at my next therapy session. I am on medication to help me to stop cutting. My therapist made me show her my thighs and I received an "oh my" in response. I think she was a little surprised.

It does not affect school at all because I don't let it. It does affect my relationship because my girlfriend knows that i cut but we don't talk about it

im 19 and have been self injuring since i was a kid.
i dont do anything about it, i just hide it as best i can.
i hide my scars from everyone, which is sometimes hard, but it has to be done.
i agree with cutter girl, i try not to do it for my boyfriend, but i really dont care enough to stop

I'm 20 and still SI-ing. I have been since I was 13. I hide it from everyone I know. None of my college friends know about it. I try and ignore the problem. I wouldn't even know how to go about getting help, to tell you the truth. There are counselors available on campus for free, but I'm too scared to go to them.
Sometimes I'm emberassed about my scars, but for the most part they are in places people can't see--so no one asks (which is nice). I can pretend it doesn't happen.

I'm 19, I've only done it once but I've felt like trying it again a few times. I'm just afraid to because it leaves marks that people can still see afterwards. I bruised my legs over two weeks ago and there's still a little bruising left. And now I've got five lines down my upper left arm from where I cut it.

It hasn't really affected my relationship as my boyfriend doesn't know. He doesn't know how self-destructive I felt and how it's gotten worse. He'll never know.

when i was studying last year, i went to a semi private college... and being a cutter, it was quite hard. The tutors noticed and forced me to see this councellor which I DIDNT want to do. And it just screwed up my whole year, i got treated so diffirently to all the other students...it was CRAP!

Probably didnt help that was an alcholic druggie too. Shit Happens haha.

I just turned 18 about a month ago and yes, I still do cut myself every now and then. Though I have to admit that I'm not in college quite YET, I am going to the University of Memphis in August and have 19 days left of high school. Basically I ignore it and talk to a select few people about it.

I'm a twenty year old cutter. I tried therapy. I made my therapist cry. I thought I could deal on my own, until I met this guy and he's been such a huge support system for me. But he told me the other day that he can't deal with it anymore. Its too hard for him. Now I don't know what to do.

I'm 18 and I still self harm. It's just something I don't give any thought to anymore - I'm not receiving any help, and I hope that one day I can stop doing it, but right now I just can't seem to.

It didn't affect uni or my relationships, to be honest. My group of friends are really accepting (they don't know I do it, but another person in the group openly does) and we all know that we're there for eachother should we need eachother.

I have stopped SI for 4 months, but I really want to start up again, but my girlfriend will notice so that is what is keeping me from not doing it again. I am in college and few people know, I am not in therapy, but will be soon. Just hang in there, find someone you are comfortable talking to about it and may find other coping skills? Go to the gym or kick box or something, it'll make you feel better, but I know it's not that easy.

get councling?

if you enter and leave counseling depressed, you'd know what it's like.

Its different.

College itself is different. People usually stay out of your business. No one really knows about my SI. A few do but they are very understanding people.

Its a little tough because you have to get out of certain group stuff. A bunch of friends went to the beach and I couldn't go, or people ask why I am always wearing a jacket.

The stress of college is what really gets to you...or at least me.

My college does not know and I plan to keep it that way. The therapist I see off campus.
