Many MANY religions insist that god is perfect, and yet the ultimate good. if perfect represents all-encompassing, than isn't God evil as well? and insane? and immoral? in some instances. If so, the devil cant exist, because the opposite of god would be nothingness.
Perfect doesn't "represent all-encompassing." Perfection is without flaw. If you see evil as a flaw, then evil is incompatible with perfection. To be everything is not to be perfect. To be everything necessary for perfection is to be perfect. Why bother with the "many, many religions" nonsense if you follow it up with some nonsense about the devil? We all know that at most, you're talking three to four religions (four only if you consider Mormonism to be a separate religious tradition). Besides, within the context of the religions you're talking about, the Devil isn't the opposite of God. The opposite of God would need to be an all-powerful, all-knowing and wholly evil being. The Abrahamic religions do not believe the Devil is that. |

The Christian God is the Jewish Devil.
The Anglican God is the Presbyterian Stay Puft Marshmellow Man. hey, look. I can play the say stupid things game too.
Except that yours makes no sense, and mine does. try again kid.
Justify your assertion by explaining the role that a devil has in the Jewish religion, and then go on to explain how the Christian God fills that role in a way that makes any sort of coherent theological sense. Go. |

nope. Evil = complete lack of good Insane = complete lack of sanity immoral = complete lack of morality These features would be negative qualities of God and would make him less perfect and, indeed, contradictory as well. |

I think your paradox might stem from your self-made definition of perfection.

You are trying to dig a hole through solid steel. Applying logic and reason to deities is a futile effort. Gods are inherently illogical and nonsensical. |

| Wow, because we haven't heard that argument over 9000 times on this forum alone. And my view is that all religions worship some aspect of the same one God, pantheons represent multiple facets (or similar beings to angels). Or perhaps monotheists are the ones that don't have it quite right, and it's actually a pantheon. I guess I'm something of an agnostic theist but I avoid saying that because people don't know what agnostic actually means. Whatever. |
